This piece is made with fusible applique. I chose to hand embroider it using the blanket and outlines stitches. Typically I use two strands of embroidery floss but for smaller details like the baby bird and eggs I only used one strand. After finishing the embroidery I added a scalloped border using vintage feed sack fabric which I thought suited the reproduction fabrics used to create the picture. The vintage feel of this quilt made me decide to hand quilt it and because of it's size this was an option I could achieve. The edge was finished with a scalloped facing which left a nice clean knife edge.
