Friendship
2012
The center of this quilt is a fat quarter I bought in Deerfield, Massachusetts in October 2011. When I saw it I knew it could work as the focus piece in a wall hanging to celebrate the friendship between Japan and the United States in honor of the 100th anniversary of the gift of the cherry trees. I found the translation for friendship online and fused it on the border. I free motion quilted it with a variety of threads. The final touch was to sew a seed bead in the center of each cherry blossom, and embroider the outline of friendship in gold thread.
